The Love You Give

Being a mom was easier before the moodiness, shrugs, and slammed doors. We cringed. Being a mom had never felt like this before. We were uncomfortable and wondered if it was us. But it wasn’t us. Our child’s growth to maturity was unfolding just as it should.

It’s hard to unravel the story that led to the mood that was caused by a text that wasn’t meant to be sent. It’s hard to be wise and give them a voice when the frustration mounts and reason is absent. And it’s hard to stand still and not fix all the things so that they can become problem solvers.

They need the love we give:

The nod
The smile
The wink
The pat on the back

Our shoulders
Our ears
Our attention
Our time
Our insight
Our presence
Our support
Our warmth
Our affection
Our approval
Our acknowledgment

The permission slip signed
The new password
The ride
The cash
The forgotten item delivered

The morning greeting
The nightly tuck in and so much more!

It’s a life of giving, being a mom. With every breath, through each phase, we believe in them and the adult they will become.

Happy Mother’s Day to you and all the moms! I admire you and the love you give.
